Frequently asked questions

How long will it last?

This is amongst the most popular of questions and one of the hardest to answer because of the changes in application methods, development of materials and how it is used, continually extends the lifespan. Typically with "average use" resin driveways are estimated to last for more than 20 years.

Resin driveways have to be laid by people who have the knowledge and experience to understand what base is needed. We will only quote and install the product where we know that it will be fit for purpose, we back our confidence in our work with a 120 month warranty period on any RonaDeck or Addagrip Resin Bonded product.

Can I lay resin on my existing drive?

With most professionally installed driveways the answer will be yes, see our page on driveway preparation to see the level of work that is undertaken to prepare a professionally installed driveway. The key is the depth and strength of the sub-structure. If the driveway is thick, crack free then the answer is normally yes. To see if your driveway can have resin laid on it please contact us and we will arrange for a surveyor to visit - this service is free.

How long will I have to wait?

When we make a decision about making a change to our home we want to crack on with it and get the job done. All our customers feel exactly the same. When you contract us to install your new resin driveway, path or patio we will discuss the timescales with you. These vary with the time of year.

One of our biggest shared frustrations is not being able to give a specific date and timescale, I would just like to go into a little more detail and explain why. We know from experience that laying resin in very damp conditions can cause problems for the owners later on. As such we do not lay resin driveways when it is wet.

The work process starts with the preparation of the site ready for the final resin layer. Should it rain before the resin is put down we cannot lay it. This delays the process. If we have two weeks of rain we may have 5 or 6 driveways prepared for resin which we then complete when the weather is right. Please bear with us if there are delays caused by bad weather. We know that it is better to wait a few more weeks than have a product that you are not 100% satisfied with.

To help you understand where your project is in the timeline we have a special web page that details the contracts that are awaiting completion. You get a link to this when you place your order. Different jobs take different amounts of time, for example the work that we did at  King's College Cambridge or the car park at the station in Woodbridge, Suffolk, took a lot longer than an average drive, similarly laying resin on a drive already covered in tarmac may only take half a day.

Any delay is worth it, please read the customer reviews and you will see how well our work is thought of.

How much resin will I need and what will it cost?

The cost for resin is based on the number of square metres that need to be covered. The resin mixture is laid at between 18 - 20 mm thick. From this we can provide a basic cost. Please do call us to find out the latest best price, we are very competitive with our price - BUT - we don't take shortcuts, the minimum resin depth is 15 mm and we start at 18 mm. We will not lay resin on a surface that is not suitable and we guarantee our work.

We are proud to be a leading Resin business, our company name "Resin Master" is something that we cherish.

Are resin bound surfaces environmentally friendly?

A resin bound driveway is going to be one of the most environmentally friendly solid surfaces for drives, patios and paths. The stones are obviously a natural product, as is resin. The combination of the two provides a porous surface that is compliant with the requirements of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). The environment agency encourages the use of resin surfaces to help tackle the threat of flooding in the UK. Production involves washing, drying and screening the stones which uses a fraction of the energy needed compared to manufacturing cement for concrete drives.

Are resin driveways slippery?

A lot of cheaper resin surfaces have sand added on top to provide the grip. The manufacturers that we use recommend adding the sand to the mixtures. This means we have to use more resin which costs more but it ensures that the anti slip element is integral to the installation. If additional "anti slip" features are required please let us know before installation.

What if something goes wrong?

In an ideal world everything is right first time but sometimes things do not work out as planned. Our Resin Bonded work is covered by a 120 month warranty.  We are proud of our customer reviews and are motivated by our customer satisfaction and strive to deliver the product right first time, every time.

Is it weed free?

Resin bound surfaces are made from natural products and are not guaranteed against weed growth. Installations may have surfaces that tiny seeds can get caught in. If you get weeds simply spray with a weed killer, from experience our preferred brand is Resolva.

Concrete drives are less likely to have weeds because of the nature of the surface, if kept clean and well maintained this is the best weed free option.
